A poetic thank-you note

Park City Rotary Club:

Thank you for your gift of books.

Not to mention, the Spanish ones we’re keeping in the nooks.

They are succeeding in their missions of giving us definitions.

The dictionaries help a lot.

Someone looked up period and found out it’s a dot.

So, thanks again, it got our brains all swirled.

Veterans don’t get recognition they deserve

I came to this area because of all the wonderful opportunities Park City has to offer, both in the summer and winter. Since I am originally a Texan where humans are kind and friendly, I found the same to be true, for the most part, in Park City as well. Having prefaced this, I am sad to say I was EXTREMELY disappointed to see that the very people who have provided the opportunities we all enjoy during ALL seasons here, were NOT honored by the city on Veteran’s Day. Yes, there was a token display of pride and thanks by the Park City Community Center (formerly the Park City Library) in honor of the Wounded Warriors Project, but there was no display on Main Street. This is where most newcomers and long-time residents, alike, gather during a beautiful day in Park City.

Whether or not one believes in war, our country is founded on freedoms that would NOT exist if it weren’t for the brave men and women who have fought or given their lives for all of us. Our country is constantly berated and attacked because of the very freedoms we enjoy and obviously, take for granted. I hope that future opportunities the city has to honor those who keep us free, will do so. There are many other days available to put up banners on street lights informing all of the many trails Park City has to offer.

Film Series lights up with gratitude

On behalf of the Park City Film Series and film lovers of all ages, I want to thank the community for their overwhelming support of our Go Digital or Go Dark Campaign on Live PC Give PC. This year we made it to the top of the small non-profit leader board and were in fourth place overall – Wow!

A big thank you to our weekly volunteers and patrons who make the Film Series more than just a place to come watch great films. And an enormous debt of thanks to the Summit County Restaurant Tax, the William Wishnick Foundation, the Park City Community Foundation and the many, many individuals in our community who have helped us raise $59,000 towards our $75,000 Go Digital or Go Dark Campaign goal.

Beginning in January 2014 all new films will only be available in Digital Cinema Format, so this is the most important campaign in our 14-year history. We’re not done yet, but the future is looking bright (and Digital)! Thank you Park City for helping to keep Independent Film alive at the Park City Film Series!

I never write the paper, but just read the letter from Cameron Perry PCHS Junior and was so impressed I felt the need to tell you. I do not know much about the issue , but felt Cameron expressed himself in a manor that makes me feel really proud of the education he has received.
