In the article ‘Nanny has court hearing’ in the July 3 issue, it was stated that Columbian au pair Diana Marino "will face 180 days in jail" after she was charged with failing to stop or respond to police and reckless driving on S.R. 248 on Sunday, June 23.
On July 1, Marino appeared in Summit County Third District Court and pled guilty to the count of reckless driving, a Class B misdemeanor, in exchange for County Attorney David Brickey dismissing the failure to stop charge, a third-degree felony.
Her additional jail time of 172 days was suspended with the stipulation that she abide by her 12-month probation conditions. She will also pay a $623 fine and the court has ordered her not to drive in the state of Utah until she can obtain a valid Utah license or driving privilege card, according to a press release from the Summit County Attorney’s Office.
Additionally, contrary to Kasey Ring’s comments in the June 29 article ‘Nanny could be deported’ that Marino "didn’t realize they [Utah Highway Patrol] were attempting to pull her over," Brickey issued the following statement:
"We welcome visitors from around the world to Park City, but we expect that if they are going to drive here that they will learn the rules of our roads. Any questions about the meaning of traffic laws, red and blue flashing lights, or loud sirens should be answered before you get behind the wheel of a car."
