During May, it’s typical for a set of golf clubs to get a quick dusting after being retrieved from the garage at the beginning of the golf season.
According to the PGA pros at GolfTec, the new golf improvement center located at 1890 Bonanza Drive,
dusting off your swing, instead of your equipment, is a much better approach.
“The average person who walks through the doors is looking for a way to enjoy the game more,” said Simon Mason, GolfTec Park City franchise owner. “Most people think of a golf lesson as a Band-Aid for their swing, but we’re not your typical golf lesson. We look at your swing from the ground up and make sure everything is fundamentally correct.”
According to Mason, for more than 15 years, the Denver, Colo. – based GolfTec has been helping golfers of all skill levels play better and enjoy the game more through the use of technology and PGA professional advice to get the best results possible.
As one of the leaders in golf improvement, according to the company’s website, GolfTec teaches 20 percent of all U.S. golf lessons annually and delivers a consistent 95 percent success rate. Their certified coaches are expected to give their four millionth golf lesson sometime this year, and they operate nearly 200 improvement centers in the U.S., Canada and Asia.
Now Parkites have the opportunity to have a personalized, computerized swing evaluation, conducted by one of the two GolfTec certified personal coaches, Chris Johnson or KC Todd, who have 17 years of combined teaching experience.
“We are certainly one of a kind when it comes to using this type of technology in lessons,” Mason said.
In the newly-renovated shop, golfers move through the physical space inside an instructional bay while their movements, like those in a computer model, are tracked, recorded, and analyzed. With the help of the company’s proprietary g-SWING system, which combines video and computerized measurements of key body movements, either Johnson or Todd will identify areas for improvement in every part of the swing.
The team has a five-point system, The Proven Path, it uses when improving a golfer’s swing, which include: fact-based diagnosis, sequential lessons, video-based practice, advanced retention tools and precision-matched clubs.
“It doesn’t matter if you are a beginner or an accomplished golfer, the widespread approach we take can help reach most golfers’ personal goals,” Johnson said. “As a coach, I’m not passively sitting around waiting for golfers to come in for a lesson. I have students now that I check up with regularly to make sure they are working on everything needed. I’m not an instructor, I’m a coach.”
When the session has finished, the work is far from over, Johnson added.
“After the lesson, I start to break down all of the video and provide recommendations customized for each golfer,” Johnson said. “I then create a personal website crafted for each of my students, providing 24/7 access to lesson recaps, game tracking and practice drills.”
The business, that caters to golfers looking to improve their technique, doesn’t have racks of merchandise to shop through, but personal club fitting is available to match golfers’ clubs to their swings and playing preferences, added Johnson. Through the g-SWING and g-PUTT systems, only available at GolfTec locations, the fitting process integrates motion measurement, digital video and a database of more than 1,000 club options.
“This town is built around sports, and we are here to give local golfers an edge,” Mason said. “This is the best lesson money can buy.”
