The Park City Elks Lodge on Saturday honored local emergency services personnel with its annual awards during an event at Rotary Park.

Eric Hales, who is from the Park City Fire District and accepted the honor on behalf of recipient Mark Robertson. The Elks Lodge named Robertson the EMT of the year in Summit County.

Jeffrey Daems, who was named the trooper of the year in the Utah Highway Patrol
The Park City Police Department’s police officer of the year, Miguel Contreras, is not pictured.
Russ Shurtliff, the Elks Lodge president in Park City, said the honorees were chosen by their peers. Each of them received a plaque and an undisclosed amount of money.
He compared the duties of the first responders to military personnel who serve overseas. He said they devoted themselves “to protect our lives.”
“It’s just the dedication to the American way of life. They will give any and all,” he said.
It is the tenth year that the local Elks Lodge has been involved in the honors.
The emergency responders, their family members and others from the agencies enjoyed a picnic to mark the event.
