The Park City Police Department received complaints last week that scooter riders were spotted in the skate park at City Park, continuing a long-running dispute between skateboarders and others encroaching in the park.

People riding scooters are not allowed to use the skate park. They are seen there occasionally, though.
Park City recreation officials have long said they do not want scooter riders or bicyclists in the skate park. They argue that the scooters and the bicycles could damage the surface of the park. They also say there is a heightened danger of injury when the bicyclists and scooter riders are alongside the skateboarders and in-line skaters who are allowed in the park.
The policed typically ask scooter riders and bicyclists to leave if they are found in the skate park.
A sign at the skate park informs users that bicycles, human-powered scooters and motorized scooters are prohibited.
Prior to last week’s cases, there were at least five other complaints to the Police Department since late June. The earlier cases included a midday report on June 22 that three youngsters were seen riding scooters in the skate park.
There is not a public place in Park City for scooter riders to practice stunts or ride like they are able to in the skate park. Bicyclists, though, are encouraged to use the dirt jump park off Holiday Ranch Loop Road, which was built for riders.
