The Park City Police Department last week received another series of complaints about skis or snowboards being stolen, continuing a string that has stretched a month.

Some of the cases reported last week included:

  • on Saturday, March 3 at 9:38 a.m., unspecified skiing equipment was reported stolen on the 7500 block of Royal Street. The equipment was apparently at or just outside a restaurant, the police were told.
  • on Thursday, March 1 at 2:47 p.m., skis were reported stolen from the 7500 block of Royal Street. They were taken between noon and 1 p.m., the police were told. The skis are valued at $700.
  • on Tuesday, Feb. 28 at 12:48 p.m., the police received a complaint that a pair of rental skis and poles were stolen from the 7500 block of Royal Street. The equipment was taken on Feb. 23, the police were told. The skis and poles were taken from a ski rack, the police said.
  • on Monday, Feb. 27 at 10:09 pm., the police received a report that a snowboard had been stolen on the 1300 block of Lowell Avenue.

    The cases followed earlier reports that started in early February. At least eight cases were reported between Feb. 2 and Feb. 25. The mountain resorts recommend people secure their skis in lockers or check-in locations.

    The police have long said some reports involving stolen skis end up being misplaced skis rather than stolen ones.

    The Police Department offers a ski-registration system meant to increase the chances that skis and snowboards are returned to their owners if they are stolen and later recovered. The registration form is available on City Hall’s website, www.parkcity.org. Select the "I Want To . . ." dropdown menu at the top of the page. Then select the "Register my Skis/Snowboard (Equipment)."
