A 19-year-old University of Utah student died Sunday morning at Canyons Resort after she fell from the High Meadow chairlift, according to a press release from Canyons Director of Public Relations Steve Pastorino.
The student had not been identified as of Monday morning but Pastorino said a prior medical condition may have contributed to the incident.
According to Pastorino, ski patrol arrived within one minute of the woman falling from the lift and began rendering aid. He estimated that the woman fell about 30 feet. A medical helicopter was called to the scene but the woman was unable to be resuscitated and was pronounced dead on the scene at 12:30 p.m. It was Canyons’ first fatality of the season.
The Summit County Sheriff’s Office and the Utah Office of the Medical Examiner are investigating the incident.
