Diane Foster, who manages City Hall’s environmental programs, will serve as the assistant city manager on an interim basis as someone is sought for the position permanently.
Michael Kovacs, who is the current assistant city manager, has tendered his resignation. Leaders in Galveston, Texas, in December tapped him as the next city manager in that community.
Foster was selected for the position on an interim basis after an internal search. Details about the search have not been made public.
Foster said the interim position will likely be in place for between three and six months. She anticipates the permanent position will be filled after a national search. She said she will submit an application.
Foster has been on the City Hall staff for nearly four years. She is the environmental affairs manager, a position that puts her in charge of City Hall’s wide ranging green programs. Environmentalism has been a priority at City Hall during the administration of Mayor Dana Williams.
She entered government work after 20-plus years in the private sector, including time in the high tech industry and the ski industry. She holds a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Cambridge in Great Britain and is enrolled in a master’s of public administration program at the University of Utah.
