While parking in Park City is restricted during Sundance to reduce congestion, customers and movie-goers alike may be fighting over parking spots in the Redstone area.

The Redstone Theater will show numerous Sundance films every day during the festival, and while parking is abundant in the area, so are customers, visiting stores like Smith’s Food and Drug, Whole Foods, Petco and TJ Maxx.

Elizabeth Latenser, Media Relations Manager with the Sundance Film Festival, said that Sundance will provide additional buses during the festival to allow people to get from Park City to the Snyderville Basin without driving.

“Sundance is supplementing the shuttles that normally run to enhance the audience experience and make sure people see screenings at all Park City venues. Each venue has a different viewing experience so we encourage everyone, visitor and local alike, to familiarize themselves with the additional shuttle routes,” Latenser said, adding that Sundance is not in charge of any parking lots in the Redstone area and will not have any Park and Ride lots in the Basin.

Numerous businesses in the Redstone area said their parking lots will be open to customers throughout Sundance and they do not expect any form of restrictions to be placed on parking.

Summit County Public Works Director Kevin Callahan said Summit County will continue operating only one express bus per-hour from Park City to Kimball Junction throughout Sundance.

“Sundance executives want to provide proper transit options for people who are seeing multiple movies a day and need to rush from one to the other,” Callahan said. “Because of this, our one express bus an hour probably isn’t enough and the other ones that go from Park City to Kimball Junction and vice-versa go through neighborhoods and may take too long.”

According to Callahan, the only transportation role the County will play during Sundance is monitoring the bus stops to make sure they are in good condition and easily accessible.

“Last year, we worked really hard to make sure all the sidewalks were shoveled, but I don’t know if that will be as much of a concern this year,” he said.

Latenser said express Sundance shuttles from Park City to Redstone will begin on Friday, Jan. 20 and continue through Saturday, Jan. 28. Shuttles will depart every 10 minutes during peak hours from Redstone and Park City. The last bus will leave Redstone headed into Park City 12:30 a.m. and the Old Town Transit Center headed to Redstone at midnight.

“Taking the shuttle reduces traffic congestion, and allows the shuttles to move even more efficiently. We recommend that all patrons and locals try to avoid driving as much as possible,” she said.
