Whether it’s a statewide nonprofit or an international company, the holiday shopping season is seeing a push for buying local.
More than a hundred Park City businesses will be a part of Small Business Saturday, a national effort encouraging consumers to shop with local businesses. From Banhof Sports to Skullcandy, Park City residents can choose a local business to support on Saturday as part of a national American Express campaign.
"I really feel strongly that in this economy especially, it’s imperative that we as residents, we have to support small businesses," said Right At Home business owner, Marion Boland. "I think there are a lot of other folks in town who have done the same thing."
On Nov. 26, American Express customers will receive $25 in credit if they register and spend more than $25 at a local business.
From Nov. 25 to Dec. 2, the nonprofit Local First Utah will hold its annual Buy Local Week, overlapping with the national Small Business Saturday. The nonprofit is asking Utahns to make a 10 percent shift in their shopping habits toward locally owned, independent retailers. For the first time this year, the nonprofit will offer the Gift Shift Coupon Campaign, offering discounts at local businesses.
