After receiving a positive recommendation from the Snyderville Basin Planning Commission, the Summit County Council will hold a public hearing on Wednesday to discuss the addition of a three-story, 62,000-square-foot office complex in Newpark.
Cottonwood Developers requested to build a mirror building, called Cottonwood 3, to the Cottonwood 1 complex that houses the Skullcandy headquarters. After multiple meetings with the applicants, the commissioners decided the architecture would not fit in as well in the second location and suggested changes.
The final site plan submitted to the county council has the same footprint and size as Cottonwood 1, but is a different color and nine feet shorter.
“The applicants requested the building be 54 feet high, but we decided it couldn’t exceed the Snyderville Basin Planning Code’s 45-foot height limit,” said Commissioner Bruce Taylor.
According to Taylor, the commissioners wants to make sure the new development in Newpark doesn’t disrupt pedestrian access.
“The plan for that area is to maintain pedestrian and vehicle throughways from the south end, which is Jupiter Bowl, to the Basin Recreation field house on the north end.”
The developers received approval to build an office building on the parcel in 2008, according to Summit County Planner Adryan Slaght. In 2010, they changed course and asked to build 100 apartment units on the parcel instead. After the planning commission approved the change, the developers decided to revert back to their original plan to build an office building.
Summit County Council will conduct a public hearing on Sept. 28 at the Summit County Courthouse in Coalville to discuss and possibly approve the building.
