People who live in Old Town on Wednesday will have a chance to tell Park City leaders how they want their neighborhood to grow over the years, part of City Hall’s ongoing discussions about the community’s future.

Officials have scheduled an event known as a charrette to gather input from Old Town residents. It is slated to start at 6 p.m. in the Park City Council chambers at the Marsac Building and will likely last 90 minutes.

Katie Cattan, the City Hall planner who organized the event, said the municipal government is “looking to define the neighborhoods within Old Town.”

“What needs to be saved? What needs to be fixed,” Cattan said.

Old Town has long been Park City’s most disputed neighborhood, with there being varying interest groups and different wishes from the individual sections of the neighborhood. People who live in the southern reaches of Old Town, on streets like Daly Avenue, often have differing ideas than the people who live in the northern sections of the neighborhood, such as nearby City Park.

“Old Town has been a little more complex in the planning realm over the years,” Cattan said.

A formal presentation is not scheduled on Wednesday, leaving the time for City Hall to gather opinions. Cattan said she hopes at least 100 people attend. Members of the Park City Planning Commission will likely be in attendance. There is a chance Park City Councilors could also appear at the event.

The event and a similarly fashioned one that will be held later covering other neighborhoods come as City Hall continues its long-running efforts to redo the municipal General Plan, an overarching document that guides growth within the city.

City Hall staffers, particularly within the Planning Department, are spending significant time on the General Plan discussions. They say the input from Parkites will be important as the revised document is crafted.

Another charrette will be held later catering to Parkites who live outside of Old Town. It will be scheduled later in September or October.
