A Utah Department of Transportation-hired crew on Monday put down a new layer of asphalt along a notoriously bumpy stretch of road on Park Avenue outside the Fresh Market parking lot.
The road had been heavily damaged at that location, and people who regularly drove that part of Park Avenue had become accustomed to the bumpy ride.
A spokesman for the state Department of Transportation says the asphalt will last through the 2011-2012 winter. More extensive work is planned next year, when a section of road that includes the stretch outside the parking lot will be ground down and then replaced.
The Department of Transportation says a busy bus stop nearby might have contributed to the damage to the road.
Park Avenue at that location is part of S.R. 224, a highway that is under the jurisdiction the state Department of Transportation.
