Acoustic guitarist Leo Kottke will present an encore performance at the Egyptian Theatre, 328 Main St., on Aug. 27, at 8 p.m. Tickets are $30 and can be purchased at www.parkcityshows.com.
Kottke is known for his innovative fingerpicking style, which draws on influences from blues, jazz, and folk music, and his syncopated, polyphonic melodies.
Raised in 12 different states, Kottke absorbed a variety of musical influences as a child, flirting with both violin and trombone, before turning to the guitar at age 11.
Kottke joined the Navy underage and lost some hearing while serving on the USS Halfbeak in the Atlantic.
Discharged in 1964, Kottke entered college, dropping out after a year to hitchhike across the country with his twelve string and settled in the Twin Cities area.
He became a fixture on the city’s folk club circuit and issued his first album, “Twelve String Blues,” in 1969.
Throughout his career Kottke garnered two Grammy nominations, a doctorate degree in music performance by the Peck School of Music at the University of Wisconsin in Milwaukee.
