The organizers of the Leadership Park City training program are seeking people for its next yearlong class, an opportunity for people to learn about the mechanics of the community.

Applications are due on Aug. 19. They are available on City Hall’s website, www.parkcity.org. Select the ‘Leadership Park City’ link under the ‘News’ headline.

The annual program introduces participants to a range of institutions and issues in Park City. The group typically gathers once a month for daylong sessions that cover topics like the local government, the economy, not-for-profit groups and diversity. The class normally spends a day at the Statehouse.

Members attend City Hall’s annual City Tour to other places in the region to learn how things operate in the communities on the tour. The City Tour for the next class will be scheduled in September 2012.

The application asks people to provide a biographical sketch and inquires why someone is interested in serving in a leadership role in the community.

People who are selected receive $1,000 scholarship to cover the costs of the program.

The next class, which will be the 18th, will start in the fall.

Myles Rademan, the founder and co-director of the program, said 30 people will be selected for the class. Two others, both being juniors at Park City High School, will also be named as class members.

He said the organizers typically receive more than 90 applications for the Leadership Park City spots. Eligibility is limited to people who live or work in Park City, Summit County or Wasatch County. A note posted with the application indicates organizers encourage people from diverse backgrounds to submit their names as candidates.

Approximately 475 people have graduated from Leadership Park City. Some of them went on to hold high-level positions in local government, in the not-for-profit sector and in business. Mayor Dana Williams and four of the five current members of the Park City Council are graduates of the program.
