Mountain Regional Water’s rate increase was approved Wednesday night by the Summit County Council, allowing the company to increase their fees by seven percent this year and another seven percent next year.
The increase will take affect immediately, raising the average customer’s water bill by $5 a month according to Mountain Regional Water general manager Andy Armstrong. Currently, the average Mountain Regional Water customer pays $70 a month. The average Park City Municipal water user pays $73 a month.
"The county council recognized our need for the rate increase in order to continue doing business with them," said Armstrong.
Council member Dave Ure voted against the increase, saying he was uncomfortable with the two-year commitment and would rather Mountain Regional come back again next year to ask for the additional seven percent.
