Henefer’s 720 residents may only have to choose from two candidates for the two open city council seats, but residents say with issues such as stimulating the economy, managing development and land rights facing the town, they are hoping both candidates have clear goals for the future of Henefer.
Bruce Rowser and Joshua Richins terms expire in December, neither is running for reelection.
Candidates for the Coalville City Council
Richard Butler
Butler has lived in Henefer for 40 years and has previously served two terms as mayor and one term on the city council. Butler said he is hoping to bring a lot of experience to the city council.
According to Butler, his background can bring new skills and insight to the council. He holds a degree in business management, has a real estate background and experience in writing grants for funding.
“I think the biggest issue in Henefer right now is annexation and land development, where is it going to happen and who is going to take the lead on it,” added Butler.
Joyce Housley
Housley has lived in Henefer her entire life and has taught at North Summit Middle School for 30 years.
According to Housley, as a lifetime resident of the town, she has watched it progress and change and wants to be more knowledgeable and involved. She enjoys the tight-knit community and wants to keep the small-town feel of Henefer that residents love.
“We have seen a lot of new growth and development and I think we need to make sure we look at it and do it right,” said Housley. “I want to find out more about the issues confronting the town and improve the skills I have.”
