Someone might have seen a mountain lion close to McPolin Elementary School last week, the Park City Police Department said.
On Monday, June 6 at 8:58 p.m., a woman reported seeing a very large cat, perhaps weighing between 40 and 50 pounds, on the 2200 block of Kearns Boulevard.
The animal was seen in willows in a field behind the school, the police were told.
Mountain lions inhabit the Park City area, with sightings occurring occasionally throughout much of the west side of Summit County. Mountain lions typically follow prey animals, such as deer, to higher or lower elevations depending on the season.
The prey animals and the mountain lions would be expected to head to higher elevations as the snow melts.
The police and wildlife officials, though, say some people who believe they have seen mountain lions have instead seen another species, including large dogs.
