Strike it rich with The Prospector this Saturday.
Jill Little, a representative of Party of Gold, and The Prospector Lodge and Convention Center will hold a “gold party” June 11 from 10 a.m. to noon at the Lodge. People are invited to bring in unwanted jewelry in exchange for cash. A portion of proceeds will be donated to the Basin Recreation Scholarship Fund.
The event is organized by Larry Feldman, who is handling marketing for the lodge. Feldman’s wife Heather, a local Realtor, attended a Party of Gold event hosted in a friend’s home and came back with $588, he said.
The pieces she took were unwanted and collecting dust. The couple anticipated them being worth $75 at best, he added.
“After thinking about it, and realizing how much gold is worth these days, it made sense,” he said.
While Little cannot guarantee anything, she said Heather Feldman’s experience was not out of the ordinary. Her average party attendee in Park City goes home with several hundred dollars.
The opportunity to modern-day prospect was a perfect fit for the lodge and convention center, Feldman said. Saturday’s event will offer food and drinks and is meant to be fun.
Little said she learned of the company through an acquaintance of her husband’s and has seen great results in this area. People have a plethora of opportunities to exchange jewelry for cash, but the Party of Gold allows you to do it with someone you know and trust, she said.
“I’m a local. I’ve lived in Park City for 10 years. I have kids in the schools. I’m not going to rip anybody off,” she said.
The process is simple. Little has a tool kit to check the amount of gold and silver inside a piece and then uses a chart to award cash.
A lot of people have pieces that contain valuable metals, but they don’t want them anymore, Little said. She often sees divorcees with old rings and people who attended high school in the 1980s with gold pieces that were popular then, but out of fashion now.
