The Donald Trump supporter who has been holding one-man political events on Main Street since late March had a blunt response when he heard on Monday that the business mogul would not mount a White House campaign: “what a bummer.”
Robert Novak, a Deer Valley resident, was on Main Street when Trump announced he would not be seeking the presidency.
Novak holds a pro-Trump sign on the side of a well-traveled section of Main Street from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Mondays through Fridays, weather permitting. He said he will continue to appear on Main Street with the sign for the time being.
“I was sure he was going to run, because of his positive attitude,” Novak said. “He’s a capitalist, not a politician. That’s what we need in the White House.”
Novak said he hopes Trump reconsiders the decision and said he might write Trump in on the 2012 ballot as his choice for the presidency. Novak, an independent, cannot name another of the potential White House contenders he would support.
Novak plans to send Trump pictures of his sign, copies of news articles about the Main Street events and a pro-Trump T-shirt in an effort to convince him to run.
Novak said nearly all the feedback he received from passers-by since March was in support of Trump.
