Park City Councilman Alex Butwinski is with a firm that leases office space in the Snyderville Basin to the Talisker Corporation-controlled ASC Utah, Inc., the first-term City Councilman said in an affidavit City Hall requires to be filed annually outlining potential conflicts of interest.

According to Butwinski’s filing, he is the landlord of a building at 1840 Sun Peak Drive. The filing indicates the space is leased to American Ski Company Utah. That firm is under the umbrella of Talisker Corporation, the developer that has significant land holdings in the Park City area.

Butwinski said in a message he is the general partner of a firm that leases the space. He said he acts as the landlord for 10 other tenants as well.

Butwinski also included the connection to Talisker Corporation on his 2010 affidavit, the first he filed as a City Councilman following his victory on Election Day 2009.

Toronto-based Talisker Corporation, through a subsidiary, is a major player in Park City-area real estate, with its interests stretching from Empire Pass to Canyons. It also is involved in the Tuhaye development. Talisker Corporation has regular dealings with City Hall.

Highlights from the affidavits filed by the other elected officials include:

  • Mayor Dana Williams indicated he is an employee of Riffs Acoustic Music, situated in the Iron Horse district. He also acknowledged he is a licensed real estate agent.
  • City Councilwoman Liza Simpson listed being an employee at Dolly’s Bookstore, located on Main Street. She also declared that her husband works for the municipal government.
  • City Councilwoman Cindy Matsumoto listed her involvement with Right At Home, a store on Bonanza Drive.
  • City Councilman Joe Kernan listed his ownership of Good Earth Recycling, an outfit that holds contracts with businesses, individuals and not-for-profit groups. Good Earth Recycling also holds a contract involving City Hall for recycling services on Main Street. He also listed a 50 percent stake in County Curbside, Inc., which holds a contract with Summit County for recycling services in several Park City neighborhoods and in South Summit. Kernan, meanwhile, noted his ownership of an investment condominium on Prospector Avenue.

    The statements also included residency information for each of them.

    In submitting the filings, each of the elected officials pledged they would not represent others in transactions involving City Hall.

    The statements filed this year were nearly identical to the ones filed in 2010.
