The authorities captured a suspect in a bank robbery early Friday evening, finding the man a short distance from where the Park City Police Department claims he made off with an undisclosed amount of money.
Police Chief Wade Carpenter said two police investigators and two FBI agents took the man into custody on the 1500 block of lower Iron Horse Drive at about 5:30 p.m.
The suspect was in the common area of a commercial building, the police chief said. The man is 27 years old and has recently lived in Kamas and Oakley, according to Carpenter.
He will be charged with a preliminary count of aggravated robbery, which is a first-degree felony, Carpenter said.
Investigators found the man approximately three hours after the police descended on the Key Bank branch on Snow Creek Drive. The police said the man handed a teller a note requesting money. He left in a dark-colored Jeep Cherokee, the police said.
Carpenter said investigators obtained an image of the suspect from a bank surveillance camera and broadcasted it to other law enforcement agencies.
An officer in an area agency recognized the suspect and another officer in a different agency went to a neighborhood the suspect is known to frequent, Carpenter said. Someone who knows the suspect positively identified the person, the police chief said.
A Park City police officer looking for the suspect located the Jeep Cherokee in a Prospector parking lot. The police searched the area and found the suspect.
Carpenter said the man threatened to use a weapon while he was in the bank, but he did not show the people one. The police did not find a weapon when he was arrested, Carpenter said.
The police chief said investigators are not searching for an accomplice.
Five law enforcement agencies were involved in the investigation — the Police Department, the Summit County Sheriff’s Office, the Wasatch County Sheriff’s Office, the Kamas Police Department and the FBI.
