City Hall has posted on its website a wide-ranging rundown of municipal rules and regulations that are important to people preparing to hold activities during the upcoming Sundance Film Festival, an attempt to inform outsiders of what can be tight restrictions on a variety of goings-on during the festival.

Some of the topics covered by City Hall in what has been dubbed the ‘rules of the road’ include:

liquor licenses, which also involve receiving permission from state alcohol regulators

business licenses, which are required by people who plan to operate screening rooms and hospitality suites as well as those who are conducting business inside Park City.

overcrowding permits, which City Hall requires people to obtain if the number of people in a building is expected to be greater than the occupancy limit.

tents for gatherings and other temporary structures that someone wants to put up during the festival, a common request.

City Hall wants people to submit applications in advance.

The website also covers municipal prohibitions on handing out fliers, stickers and other publicity material in public areas. There is a long tradition of promoters handing them out anyway, particularly on Main Street.

Meanwhile, the website provides information about parking during Sundance and the City Hall bus system. Finding parking spots in the Main Street area is difficult during the festival, and both Park City leaders and festival organizers have long encouraged people to use the free buses.

The website also offers information designed for Park City business owners who make special arrangements during Sundance or who rent their space to outside firms during the festival.

Sundance is scheduled from Jan. 20 until Jan. 30. City Hall typically receives numerous questions about the rules and regulations in the weeks before the festival starts.
