Members of the administrative control board for the Park City Fire District have narrowed a list of finalists in their search for a new fire chief.
One possible choice is someone who is currently a firefighter in Park City, said Bob Zanetti, the interim Park City fire chief.
Zanetti would not release the names of the applicants.
“We’ve narrowed it down to the final candidates and they are going to continue with their research and they’re going to reconvene after the holiday,” Zanetti said in a telephone interview.
Zanetti said he did not apply for the top position.
Board members are searching for a successor to former Park City Fire Chief Kelly Gee. Gee retired last fall having served as chief since the 1980s. Under Gee’s watch the department grew to about 90 employees with roughly 76 full-time firefighters.
Today, members of the administrative control board could make a decision about the new fire chief.
“They will make some type of decision I would think,” Zanetti said.
The meeting is scheduled at the district’s administration building Jan. 5 at 6:30 p.m. The building is located at 736 W. Bitner Road in the Snyderville Basin.
On Wednesday, members of the administrative control board expect to discuss the applicants for the chief position behind closed doors.
“We’re hoping to have a decision here in the next little while,” said Robbie Beck, a member of the administrative control board. “I can’t tell you if for sure we will make that decision on Wednesday or not.”
Meanwhile, the Summit County Council has appointed former Summit County Treasurer Michael Howard to replace Gary Vetterli on the administrative control board for the Park City Fire District.
Other board members include: Zanetti, Jim Bacon, Beck, Dianne Walker and Kent Cashel.
