Park City High School’s cross-country program is good and promises to be for the foreseeable future.
Just ask runners and coaches who attended the Foot Locker West Regional cross-country championships in Walnut, Calif.
The races, which were held on Dec. 4 at Mt. San Antonio College, attracted the best cross-country runners in the western United States.
A portion of the PCHS girls’ squad had four Miners finish the Frosh/Soph 5K race in the top-55 overall. The Miners, who won their eighth state 3A title in nine years in October, proved on an even bigger stage what the program has been able to accomplish over the last decade.
Ali Walker, a sophomore who finished second in the state 3A individual race this year, came in fourth overall with a time of 19 minutes and 45 seconds, just one second shy of third place.
Emily Schmitt, another sophomore, came in 12th overall with a time of 20 minutes and 16 seconds. Rounding out the top-55 finishers from Park City were freshmen Ellie Burton, who finished 20th overall with a time of 20 minutes and 51 seconds and Kaila Balch, who finished 33rd overall with a time of 21 minutes and 26 seconds.
Of 10 top-55 finishers at the 5K who came from Utah, four were from Park City.
Walker was named to the All-West Frosh/Soph Region first team, while Schmitt was named to the 3rd team Region squad.
