The impressive midseason turnaround that fueled another Region 10 title for Park City High School football is getting some statewide recognition.
Five members of the 2010 Miners’ title squad were recognized by the Deseret News all-state teams last week.
Park City players that were named to the first-team all-state 3A squad were senior defensive tackle/tight end Jake Adams, junior wide receiver Jono Schettler and junior quarterback Paul Flake.
Honorable mentions in 3A included senior Brian Schettler and junior John Finch.
The junior Flake threw for 2,282 yards and 15 touchdowns on the season, and had a completion rating of .514.
Jono Schettler hauled in 1,058 yards this season, averaging 105 yards a game, and scoring 10 touchdowns.
Adams led the team defensively with 53 total tackles according to Maxpreps.com and averaged 5.8 tackles per game. Adams also had four sacks and a memorable 46-yard interception return for a touchdown in the Region 10 title game against rival Wasatch.
Adams was named Region 10 MVP on a vote by all region head coaches, while Schettler was named offensive MVP for Region 10.
Park City swarmed the all-region first-team as Adams, Flake and Schettler were accompanied by senior running back Blake Thorne, wideout/defensive back Brian Schettler, senior wideout/defensive back Robert Cashel and senior offensive lineman/linebacker Connor Bevins.
Miners on the all-region second-team were senior offensive lineman/defensive tackle A.J. Flint, running back/linebacker Chad Wing, wideout/safety Heath Vincent, defensive end Jack Rinehart, center/linebacker John Finch and offensive lineman/defensive tackle Daniel Surfass.
Rounding out the all-region honors were honorable mentions offensive lineman/defensive tackle Brandon Thomas, cornerback Nick Dorius, offensive lineman/defensive tackle Gennaro Villa, linebacker Connor Lagnese and defensive tackle Jordan Ruda.
The Miners went 6-4 in their first year under head coach Kai Smalley and beginning next year, the newly-aligned Region 10 will feature the likes of Juan Diego Catholic High School, Judge Memorial High School and Uintah High School.
