Questar Gas stopped service to Harry O’s for five days in late November and early December, a spokesman for the utility said on Monday, declining to discuss the circumstances that led to the cutoff.
City Hall, meanwhile, ordered the nightclub closed for several hours on Saturday but allowed Harry O’s to reopen later that day, an official in the Park City Building Department said.
Chad Jones, the spokesman for Questar Gas, said the service was stopped from Nov. 30 to Dec. 4, a Tuesday to a Saturday. He said Questar Gas does not disclose details about individual customers and did not discuss the reason for the move against Harry O’s.
Jones, however, said the stoppage was not caused by a problem with the delivery system. That statement leaves open the possibility of an issue with the nightclub’s account.
Harry O’s, the largest nightclub on Main Street, occupies a high-traffic spot on the 400 block of Main Street. Its biggest events sometimes draw large crowds of club-goers.
Konstantine Deslis, who produces the events at the nightclub, acknowledged there was an issue with a payment to Questar Gas. He declined to discuss the amount in question. Deslis, though, disputes the length of the stoppage that Questar Gas describes.
“There was an issue between Questar that was resolved,” Deslis said.
Harry O’s was only open on Saturdays until the start of the ski season. He said the nightclub was closed at the time of the stoppage but opened on Saturday night. Deslis said the Park City Building Department notified him of the issue.
Deslis said nobody was inside Harry O’s during the period of the stoppage. He said the nightclub did not use space heaters inside during the stoppage.
The Building Department on Tuesday indicated it is investigating Harry O’s, but an official did not disclose details.
Kurt Simister, the senior building inspector, said there was a complaint against Harry O’s regarding what he described as issues involving compliance with building codes. Most of the issues were resolved the same day, Simister said.
Simister said he wants to finish the Building Department’s investigation by the middle of December. Additional information might be made public once the investigation by the Building Department is finished.
Harry O’s is scheduled to host a performance by DJ Irie on Saturday, according to the nightclub’s website.
The Park City Police Department on Saturday received two updates related to the Harry O’s situation.
At 11:26 a.m., the Building Department told police dispatchers “the building had been posted with ‘No Occupancy’ signs,” according to Police Department logs.
Later that day, at 4:53 p.m., a technician from Questar Gas requested police assistance at Harry O’s. According to the logs, the technician was at the site to restore gas service and wanted a police officer present “to avoid problems with the staff.”
