Deer Valley Resort’s 30th anniversary season looks to be a promising one.
Today marks the scheduled opening of skiing at the resort as runs are officially open and skiers will be able to get a taste of some of the best snow Utah has to offer.
Due to an impressive snowfall in November, Deer Valley is scheduled to have 20 of the available 21 chairlifts open today. The resort is also scheduled to open 74 of a possible 100 runs and six bowls.
Lift pricing for a full day adult price is $90, $63 for half day. A Senior full day pass is $65, $45 for half day. Children ages four to 12 can ski for a full day pass for $56, $44 for half day. A tot’s full day pass (ages three and under) is $21, $14 for half day.
The Deer Crest gondola is scheduled to be boarding skiers on Saturday as well.
The resort will continue limiting the number of skiers on the mountain, as the cap is set at 7,500 according to communications manager Erin Grady. According to the Deer Valley website, the resort limits the number of skiers and can reach capacity during peak periods that are typically between Christmas and New Years and the Presidents’ Day Weekend.
Skiers are able to pre-purchase tickets at the resort up to three days prior to their first ski day.
The season-opening kickoff will feature the Deer Valley Celebrity Skifest today and tomorrow. The opening weekend festivities are a fundraiser for Waterkeeper Alliance, an environmental group which promotes protecting ecosystems and water quality.
The Skifest will include giant slalom races on Birdseye Run today and tomorrow. Tomorrow’s races will be televised on CBS at 3 p.m. local time.
There will be a mixture of former Olympians and film and TV celebrities partaking in the skifest. Those expected to be in attendance are Steve and Phil Mahre, Tommy Moe and Heidi Voelker, Deer Valley’s ambassador of skiing. Big-screen stars such as Virginia Madsen, Bobby Kennedy, Joey Pantoliano, Larry David and Julia Louis-Dreyfus are also on the guest list.
