The South Summit High School volleyball team is on a proverbial roll.
The Lady Cats (19-10, 8-2 in Region 10) head into the 2A state playoffs this weekend on somewhat of a hot streak. They won eight of their last 10 matches before heading to the Nike Tournament of Champions in Arizona Oct. 22 and 23.
South Summit took second place at the tournament, going 3-3, before eventually falling to a team from Brawley, Calif., in the championship match, 25-15, 25-23.
Park City lost matches to teams from Pinnacle, Ariz., and Florence, Ariz., to go 1-2 in the tournament before winning the next two to qualify for the final.
The Lady Cats defeated teams from Show Low, Ariz., Safford, Ariz., and North Point Prep, also based in Arizona.
South Summit posted 117 kills, 100 assists, 52 blocks, 25 ace serves and 314 digs overall in the Tournament of Champions.
South Summit head coach Becky Dees singled out her senior players for their play at the tournament.
“(It was) quite impressive work,” Dees said. “We really used this tournament to help us prepare for state championship play this weekend. Emily Kueser, Teresa Chamberlain, Paige Peterson and Brooke Lewis showed exemplary leadership in this tournament.”
The Lady Cats now turn their attention toward a drive for a state title.
South Summit will start the 2A tournament in the lower bracket Friday at Utah Valley University in Orem against North Sevier.
The Lady Wolves are 7-19 on the season and came out as the fourth seed in Region 15.
The Lady Cats play at 9 a.m., and will face either Beaver (9-12) or Rowland Hall (5-20) in the quarterfinals, should they advance.
