The Park City Police Department is investigating a report of a stabbing somewhere in the city on Saturday, but a police official said this week the circumstances of the attack remained unclear.
Hospital staffers at the Park City Medical Center contacted the police at 2:42 p.m. after the victim, a man, arrived for treatment, Rick Ryan, a police captain, said. Ryan said the man appeared to be intoxicated while he was at the hospital and told investigators conflicting stories about how he was injured.
Ryan said the man, whose age was not available, suffered a “small wound” to his abdomen. The man told the police he was stabbed while trying to break up a fight involving four kids — two who he said were white and two who he said were Latino — at the bus stop on the 1700 block of Park Avenue, Ryan said. However, the man also told the police the stabbing might have occurred in the vicinity of Main Street, Ryan said.
“I don’t think there’s much credibility in the report he’s giving us,” Ryan said, adding, “He could be trying to cover for a friend he got into a fight with.”
The police also spoke to the man’s girlfriend, but she did not provide leads, he said.
Ryan said investigators do not have a description of a suspect.
The victim has lived in several places in Park City and most recently resided in Park Meadows, Ryan said.
Stabbings are rare in Park City, and the information that was provided to the police, if it turns out to be credible, would make the case even more unusual for Park City.
