The Snyderville Basin woman accused of crashing a Volkswagen Jetta into a house in Silver Summit appeared in 3rd District Court on Monday.
Cassie Elizabeth White, 22, is charged with a 3rd degree felony for damaging a place of confinement, Summit County Attorney David Brickey said.
White is also charged with two class A misdemeanors for assault on a health-care worker. She is charged with reckless endangerment, a class A misdemeanor and two class B misdemeanors for suspicion of driving under the influence and interfering with an arresting officer. White is also charged with speeding, which is a class C misdemeanor.
Investigators said White was traveling east on Highland Drive on Oct. 9 when she lost control of the vehicle. Excessive speed was a factor in the crash, deputies said.
The car crossed the oncoming lane and sped over the berm on the east side of Highland Drive, they said.
“It is utterly amazing that she could launch a vehicle 120 feet in the air and nobody’s dead,” Brickey said in a telephone interview. “It’s amazing.”
The Volkswagen became airborne before crashing into a home, he said. People were inside the home at the time of the accident.
White was transported to the Park City Medical Center with minor scratches and a cut on her head. Nobody else was injured in the crash.
While at the hospital White assaulted some of the workers, Brickey said.
“Once she was taken to the hospital she either attempted to hit or bite the hospital personnel,” he said.
Brickey said it will cost more than $5,000 to fix the house. A roll call hearing for White was scheduled Nov. 8.
