A construction crew in recent days lifted a small Old Town house a few feet above the ground in order to build a foundation, a practice that is used sometimes in the neighborhood as older houses are renovated.
Katie Cattan, the City Hall planner assigned to the project, says the home, 1059 Park Ave., was built in 1910. She says the developers plan to put a 261-square-foot addition on the back of the house and build a separate 184-square-foot work shed behind the house.
Cattan says City Hall is pleased with the preservation efforts thus far at the site.
In previous years, officials allowed developers to dismantle old houses and then attach the walls to a new house frame in a process known as panelization. City Hall, though, discourages that practice nowadays, Cattan says.
