The Summit County Sheriff’s Office arrested two men on Sunday who are accused of trying to steal items from a house in Jeremy Ranch.
Summit County Sheriff Dave Edmunds credited a Snyderville Basin man for helping to stop the burglary. The man said he knew something was wrong when he saw two people entering the home who he did not recognize.
“The [man] explained (that) he was certain his neighbor was out of town,” a press release from the Summit County Sheriff’s Office states.
The witness said he saw the two suspects place stolen items in a Ford Explorer, the authorities said.
So he called the police.
“As the deputies observed the suspect vehicle leaving the residence, the deputies attempted to conduct a traffic stop,” the press release states. “The vehicle failed to stop and attempted to ram the deputy attempting the traffic stop.”
The stolen vehicle the suspects were driving then crashed into a retaining wall near Sackett Drive, the press release states.
The two suspects fled on foot, according to Detective Ron Bridge, a spokesman for the Summit County Sheriff’s Office.
“This crime was thwarted due to the outstanding observations of a concerned neighbor,” Summit County Sheriff Dave Edmunds said. “When people are working with other people in their neighborhoods, they can effectively reduce crime.”
Both suspects were booked into the Summit County jail. They could face felony charges of burglary and theft. The suspect who was allegedly driving the getaway car is accused of felony aggravated assaulted and possession of a stolen vehicle.
