The Park City High School football team would not accept an 0-3 start to its season.
The Miners scored 13 unanswered points in the fourth quarter, including an 80-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Paul Flake to Jono Schettler on the first play of the quarter as Park City came back to win its first game of the 2010 season, 20-19 over Delta.
After owning a 7-6 lead at halftime, the Miners struggled mightily through a third quarter that saw them only net six yards of total offense. The Rabbits capitalized on a Park City fumble to quickly turn the tables into a 19-7 lead.
After Schettler’s igniting catch and run to start the fourth, the Miner defense took it upon itself to stop the Delta offense, which included a huge 4th-and-1 stop with a little more than two minutes left on the clock.
Flake marched down the field and eventually scored on a 10-yard touchdown draw by Blake Thorne.
Delta had one more shot to win the game, but Jack Rinehart sniffed out the Rabbit quarterback bootleg that had burned the Miner defense all game and intercepted the pass from Delta quarterback Colin Christensen.
All the Park City offense had to do was kill the clock, and they did that exactly. The Miners travel to Logan next week to take on the 2-1 Grizzlies.
