Q: How has practice been this week?
A: Good, actually a very good practice this week. The kids seemed very focused. They know that they’ve got a job to do. It’s been a good practice week.
Q: What was it like preparing for Delta this week?
A: The biggest thing is that we moved on from the Juan Diego game. The biggest thing is that we don’t let Juan Diego beat us twice. We move on from that game.
Q: How do you harness all the talent on this team into winning football games?
A: We can be our own worst enemy, at times. It comes down to the fact that we have a ton of talent and we showed that we can be explosive. The third play against Juan Diego, we showed we were explosive. Now, it’s just about getting into a rhythm, getting our quarterback comfortable by throwing to our receivers, our receivers comfortable with catching the ball. For the most part, Bryan (Schettler) and Jono (Schettler) are the two leading receivers in 3A. That says a lot, because we’re struggling, but we’re still doing that well. It’s like how I’ve told the kids, think how great it’s gonna be when it all starts clicking. I have no doubt in my mind that we’re one step away from being a great team. We’ve done a great job.
Q: Is it tough keeping the players grounded considering it’s the home opener?
A: No, actually. It hasn’t really even come up. Obviously, they don’t want to lose at home. They’ve said that, they’ve said we can’t lose at home. But that’s just like any team that wants to protect their own homefield. I think they know that it’s just another game and it’s got to be that they have to perform or else. We’ve got to be able to play four quarters the whole time.
