A 66-year-old Wyoming man died in a traffic accident Tuesday on Interstate 80 near Summit Park.
Dean M. Monasmith, of Worland, Wyo., was not wearing a seat belt when he was thrown out the window of a 2004 Suburban. Monasmith was pulling a camping trailer and lost control of the vehicle when the trailer began fishtailing on the freeway, the authorities said.
The crash occurred on eastbound Interstate 80 at about 4:15 p.m.
The fishtailing trailer forced the Suburban off the right side of the road, according to a report from the Utah Highway Patrol.
“The driver then overcorrected jerking the vehicle back onto the roadway crossing all three lanes of travel,” the report states. “The trailer then rolled down into the median causing [the Suburban] to roll as well.”
Monasmith landed in the road, about 26 feet away from the vehicle, after he was ejected from the Suburban, the report states.
He was the only person inside the vehicle. Monasmith was flown in a helicopter to University Hospital where he died about three hours later, according to the Utah Highway Patrol.
Lane closures were in place for about 90 minutes.
