Quintess, The Leading Residences of the World, is a destination club with four homes in Deer Valley that gives members the opportunity to stay in large, luxurious homes in 40 destinations including overseas.
On average, people who own a second home for vacationing use it 30 days a year. Add the cost of upkeep to the sticker price, and that’s an expensive 30 days a year, said Greg Eure, president of Quintess. For many it’s an investment, but the recession has shown how drastically the market can swing in an individual location.
Also, many who own second homes make a “to do” list shortly after the purchase which lingers with them until the day it’s sold. Vacations should be completely care- and worry-free, Eure argued.
“When you have time away with your family you want it to be extraordinary,” he said.
For a fraction of the price of owning a vacation home people can buy a membership into a destination club that allows them to stay in a variety of properties in several locations, he said.
Reserving a vacation rental from a property-management firm or joining some kind of timeshare or vacation club leaves guests with uncertainty about the quality of the home and their experience in the resort community, he said.
“No one knows who I am and what my family likes,” he said.
Quintess has assembled a portfolio of homes and membership services that guarantee a guest will be impressed with the lodging and have a great time in the location, Eure said.
Quintess, which started in 2004, focuses on large homes for single families with several bedrooms. The Deer Valley properties each have five rooms including two master suites, he said. Many of the 80 homes have 5,000 to 6,000 square feet and even ones in urban locations have 1,000 to 2,000 square feet.
In a hotel, a large group must reserve several rooms and still feel cramped while relying on hotel staff for all their needs, he said.
“Go with your wife, bring your kids, and bring another couple and their kids and grandparents on top of that. The homes are such that everyone has space and everyone can very much be together and live on your own schedule,” he explained.
In addition to larger homes, Quintess is also careful about over selling so the availability of the homes stays upwards of 30 percent, he said.
“We sell less and our services are more personal and high touch,” he explained.
For example, if families don’t want to cook on their vacation Quintess can arrange a chef. But do the members just want someone to cook or are they looking for a culinary experience? Do they want help with breakfast so they can hurry out the door or would they like a five-star meal served in their rooms? Would they like food they know their kids will eat or someone to prepare utterly-authentic local dishes?
Quintess finds out and makes it happen, he said.
In many ways, Quintess’ services resemble a full-service travel agent. The club finds out what a member wants from their vacation and helps arrange it. In Deer Valley, lift passes await their arrival and companies bring rented skis to the home.
“We offer members a portfolio of their second homes around their world. When they walk in, we want them to think of it as their own second home,” he said.
The homes make multi-generational travel possible transforming the way people vacation, Eure added.
“Travel is very personal and we’ve learned that and really dial into it,” he said.
