Mountain Regional Water Special Service District is one of six water companies in Utah identified as “not compliant” with the Water Conservation Plan Act.
Mountain Regional officials failed to provide a water conservation plan before a February deadline, according to a statement from the Utah Division of Water Resources.
Water companies with more than 500 drinking water connections must submit conservation plans to the Division of Water Resources. Each year the Water Conservation Plan Act requires the public be notified of companies that do not comply.
Other entities that missed the deadlines in 2010 included: Eagle Mountain City, Helper Municipal, Parowan Municipal, Provo City and Roy Municipal.
Mountain Regional officials said the employee responsible for submitting the conservation plan for the company has been ill so the deadline for Mountain Regional to submit the plan was extended.
“We had an exemption until March 15,” Mountain Regional spokeswoman Marti Gee said. “We were able to get the exemption because of the sickness.”
This week, 144 of 150 water entities had submitted water conservation plans to the state.
“We were shocked when we were on the list,” Gee said. “We believe in conservation and I’m so disappointed that this happened. It’s important that we turn these in.”
Mountain Regional expects to submit the conservation plan to the state March 12, Gee said.
