The Park City Police Department last week received a string of calls from people reporting snowboards had been stolen, with some of the cases called in from the vicinity of Park City Mountain Resort.
According to the Police Department, some of the reports included:
On Saturday, Jan. 2 at 2:02 p.m., a snowboard was reportedly taken on the 1300 block of Lowell Avenue.
At 2:15 p.m. on Jan. 2 a snowboard was reportedly swiped from the same block.
At 6:08 p.m. on Jan. 2, someone contacted the Police Department with a report that a snowboard had been taken from the same block as well.
Someone called the police at 3:19 p.m. on Jan. 2 from the area around the Town Lift saying a snowboard had been taken.
At 1:45 p.m. on Jan. 2, someone contacted the police with a complaint of three snowboards being stolen on the 1300 block of Lowell Avenue.
At 8:39 a.m., the police received a report that a snowboard had been taken from the 1300 block of Lowell Avenue.
Public police logs did not provide details about the cases, such as the design of the snowboards or the manufacturers of the equipment.
The police frequently receive complaints about stolen skis and snowboards during the busy times of the ski season. Sometimes, though, the person who makes a report later discovers that they had misplaced the equipment, not lost the skis and snowboards to thieves, the police have long said.
In other cases, though, thieves prey on people who leave skis and snowboard on unsecured racks or on the snow. The police say the thieves either want the equipment for themselves or to sell the goods on the black market.
