The Morning Ray Café will soon serve dinner, hopefully with cocktails and other hard liquor.
The Callaways from Cache County took over the Morning Ray Café at the top of Main Street in Treasure Mountain Inn last winter and have worked hard to keep it the popular breakfast stop that it has been for years.
But in their many years of restaurant experience, the Callaways had never done breakfast before and always specialized in dinner. With the help of the old chef, they’ve succeeded in their first goal, so Jackie Callaway said it’s time to introduce what they do best.
Next week the Callaways will learn if their application to serve hard liquor is approved. They already have a beer and wine license, but Callaway said they’ve lost customers this year because they couldn’t serve cocktails.
The plan is to serve the same dinner menu as their Logan restaurant. Already, they’ve worked to transition the name from Morning Ray to Callaway’s Too. Dinner was served briefly in summer, and will resume nightly in December.
Their specialties include a huge pasta menu, pizza, sandwiches, burritos “anything a good grill or pizzeria would have,” she said.
In fact, a new sign has been ordered that will read, “Callaway’s Grill and Pizzeria.”
They will serve local and domestic brews and hopefully liquor from the new High West Distillery.
Rather than transition away from Morning Ray, Callaway hopes the restaurant will just become something more and better.
The new sign will still say, “mountain-town breakfast and coffee bar.” Starbucks was recently added to the menu as well.
In the long term, she hopes to absorb more space in Treasure Mountain Inn and remodel to allow more seating, and potentially even room for live entertainment. They’re taking it slow though, and progressing in baby steps, she explained.
“It will always be a casual, approachable-type restaurant something locals will feel comfortable coming to any night of the week,” she added.
