Sandy Geldhof, program director for the Main Street Business Alliance, announced this week that merchants are already being trained on accepting the new Main Street Gift Cards, and that the cards will be available for purchase Oct. 19.
They are traditional gift cards, the same as those commonly bought and given during the holidays from box stores in lieu of a gift. They will allow holders to apply the amount on the card to a purchase at any participating merchant. Geldhof said 127 of the street’s 144 or so merchants are accepting the card.
The cards can be purchased at Treasure Mountain Inn at the top of the Street, and Marriott Summit Watch at the bottom. Eventually, the Park City Museum is expected to sell the cards in the middle. An online store will be accessible soon for people to purchase the cards via the Internet at www.rightonmain.org.
In the past Geldhof has said that the atmosphere in the shopping district is attractive to shoppers from all over, year round. But the merchants haven’t been able to capture as much of the holiday gift shopping market as they’d like. The gift card is designed to make that possible. Receivers of the cards can enjoy the Main Street shopping experience and spend the money the same as they would at a mall.
