A public-sector development propped up Park City’s monthly construction numbers in September, the Building Department reported, but the year-to-date tally remains well behind the pace of last year.
Through the end of September, the Building Department had authorized $61.3 million worth of construction. Through the same time the year before, $134.6 million in work had been authorized.
The Building Department said it issued permits in September for the Snow Creek Cottages, a work force project that City Hall is developing outside the Park Avenue police station. The project accounted for 13 of the 15 permits for single-family houses issued in September. The 15 permits are valued at $3.9 million combined.
The 15 permits issued for single-family houses in September topped the combined total of the period between January and August, when 10 permits from that category were issued, the Building Department said.
In September, the department issued 105 permits across all categories worth a combined $6.2 million. The value beat the August figure by a wide margin and was slightly ahead of the number form the same month the year before, when $6 million worth of permits were issued.
Alterations and additions accounted for $2.3 million in work in September.
The number of electrical, plumbing and mechanical permits was mixed when compared to the previous month and the same month the year before.
The Building Department’s inspection load held steady, with 261 performed each day in September, down a tad from the previous month and the same month in 2008.
Officials have indicated that the numbers at the end of the year would not match those posted in 2008, which themselves were down sharply from the record-setting numbers of 2007.
A permit issued early in 2009 for work at the Montage in Empire Pass continues to buoy the year-to-date total. It was valued at $26.9 million, or approximately 44 percent of the total of the year through the end of September.
