Investigators say a 38-year-old man might have died from an “accidental overdose” Tuesday afternoon at a house in Oakley.
“It’s not a suspicious death,” said Ron Bridge, a Summit County Sheriff’s Office detective, adding that officers found no evidence of foul play.
Shawn Sargent, 38, was found dead by a family member at about 1:21 p.m., Bridge said.
“He was pronounced deceased on scene,” Bridge said in a telephone interview.
Bridge said he couldn’t comment about what type of medication or drug might have been involved in Sargent’s death. “I don’t know the details behind that,” Bridge said. “We will wait for the medical examiner’s report.”
Bridge said he does not believe the incident was a suicide attempt. He said he met Sargent while he was growing up in Oakley.
“He was older than me but he has a brother my age and I know his mom very well,” Bridge said.
The Sargent family operates a timber mill in Oakley near where the death occurred, Bridge explained.
A deputy attempted to use a defibrillator to revive Sargent, he said. “Medical arrived, CPR was conducted and Air Med landed and attempted to save his life as well,” Bridge said. “It was a big deal.” When reached Wednesday, Sargent’s father said he wasn’t ready to comment about his son’s death.
