A woman went to the Park City police station on Wednesday, Sept. 30 reporting that she had seen two black bears in a Dumpster behind the station.
The Police Department, though, indicated that the animal was a dog. The station is located at 2060 Park Ave., close to the Snow Creek Plaza shopping area and a small neighborhood.
McLeod Creek and a trail are nearby, and people often are seen with their dogs on the trail and the open space close to the police station.
The Park City area provides habitat for black bears, but people rarely see the animals. They are sometimes spotted at higher elevations, but it would be highly unusual for a black bear to venture into the area around the police station, which is situated just off busy roads and close to neighborhoods and shopping areas.
