Two women might have stopped a 76-year-old man from kidnapping a boy Sunday at a skate park in Coalville. The North Summit man offered the 11-year-old food to accompany him to his home, said Ron Bridge, a Summit County Sheriff’s Office detective. "[He] then made an overt movement to grab the child and hold him against his will before driving away from the area," Bridge said in a prepared statement.
The Park Record doesn’t usually print the names of suspects until formal charges are filed in court.
"The women called and told us about the situation," Bridge said in an interview Monday about the witnesses in the case.
The suspect was convicted in the past of forcible sexual abuse of a child and dealing in harmful material to a minor, according to Bridge.
"He was taken off of the sex-offender registry in 2003," Bridge said.
