The deadline to submit applications for the next Leadership Park City class, the program’s sixteenth, is Thursday at 5 p.m.
The yearlong program is meant to train people for leadership roles in the area, and many people who have completed the program have gone on to hold elected and appointed positions in local governments, top-ranking not-for-profit posts and key positions in the private sector.
The next class begins in October.
The program involves monthly sessions that introduce class members to wide-ranging topics that are critical to Park City. They typically listen to presentations from local leaders, with City Hall officials being among those who usually are tapped as speakers. A visit to the Statehouse is also on the schedule. The monthly sessions usually last from 3 p.m. until 9 p.m.
People in the program also attend City Hall’s annual City Tour to other communities in the West to learn about the mechanics of the other places. This year’s trip is scheduled to go to the Colorado cities of Gunnison and Crested Butte, but the destination has not been selected for 2010.
Myles Rademan, one of the co-directors of the program said recently there remains “considerable interest” in Leadership Park City. Close to 100 applications are submitted each year, but only 30 people are picked by a 25-person selection committee consisting primarily of program graduates.
Rademan has estimated more than 400 people have graduated from the program. He touts Leadership Park City’s networking opportunities, group-building skills and diversity training.
People who are selected receive a scholarship. They are required to attend 80 percent of the activities in order to graduate.

The application asks people about their interest in the program, requests a short biography and inquires about their community service.
