A rollover crash killed an Oakley man early Monday as he drove west on State Road 35 near Francis, the authorities say.
Shane M. Bolinder, 41, drove off the right side of the road, overcorrected, and rolled the Toyota 4Runner, Utah Highway Patrol spokesman Cameron Roden said.
“There is a curve in the roadway at that location,” Roden said.
Troopers are investigating whether alcohol was a factor in the crash, he said.
Bolinder was dead when paramedics arrived at about 4:30 a.m., said Terry Taylor, a spokeswoman for South Summit Ambulance.
“He was thrown out on the highway,” Taylor said about Bolinder being ejected from the SUV. “The car was off on the shoulder on its side.”
A passerby came upon the crash at about 4 a.m., Roden said.
“It could have happened about an hour or so prior to that,” Roden said. “[Bolinder] left Fruitland at about 1 o’clock and he wasn’t found until about 4 o’clock at that location.”
South Summit resident Dennis Tapp, Bolinder’s business partner, said Bolinder was driving home from Fruitland.
“He was going to go to work that day,” Tapp said in a telephone interview Tuesday. “He must have dozed off I guess. You could see where he went off the shoulder, overcorrected and just ended up rolling.”
Bolinder worked as an electrical contractor.
“We were just both electricians and both liked to be independent,” Tapp said. “We had just started this business two years ago, and we just have to keep going.”
Tapp described his buddy as “a good old boy.”
“I knew him for about 10 years,” Tapp said. “He was very outdoorsy. He lived right on the Weber River up in Weber Canyon.”
