More volunteers are needed to help put on the Fourth of July Parade that is predicted to be the city’s biggest ever.

With the holiday falling on a Saturday, and the 125th anniversary of the city being celebrated and more people doing “staycations” this year, organizers are predicting 12,000 attendees on the low end and possibly as many as 20,000.

To keep the parade route clear, parking organized and food and drink flowing in the park, about 50 volunteers are still in desperate demand.

“It’s a great way to help out your community,” said volunteer recruiter Sarah Carey.

Volunteers will be treated to free food and a T-shirt with a fun moose character, she said. And there’s no reason to fear missing the parade. In highest demand are people to help with crowd control. With as many attendees as are expected, the city needs people along the parade route helping the crowd stay on the sidewalk.

“We need people being polite, staying on the border so people don’t run into the street,” she said.

They also aren’t asking people to sacrifice the whole day, she said. The work is being divided into two-hour shifts. If people can stay longer, all the better, but 120 minutes is all they’re asking.

The first shifts start around 8:30 a.m. and the last around 2:30 p.m. There’s a job to fit every need if someone wants to help but can’t stay the whole time, Carey said she’ll work with you.

Colleen Burke with the Park City Chamber/Bureau said this is an easy way to get involved in the community. If you’re new to town, this would be a perfect opportunity to make some friends. And the organizers are committed to making sure volunteers have a great time, she said.

Joel Fine, with the Park City Ambassadors who run the parade, said people are needed to serve soda, beer and pizza, to help floats line up in Swede Alley and make sure everyone stays safe along the route.

The parade and activities in City Park have been organized for over 25 years, he said. The most intense need for help is from 9:30 to 11 a.m., but food and drink will be served in the park all afternoon.
