A committee will meet in March to select finalists for the vacant judicial post in the Summit County Justice Court.
The selection panel will include Brent Gold, an attorney in Park City, Park City Planning Commissioner Rory Murphy, retired Summit County Sheriff’s Office Capt. Kyle Lewis, Karin Fojtik, an attorney in western Summit County, and former Summit County Commissioner Ken Woolstenhulme.
A state law enacted in January requires a selection committee help appoint new judges. Summit County picked three panel members, and the Park City Bar Association and mayors in the county appointed two more people to serve.
Mostly the Justice Court judge decides less serious cases involving traffic citations, class C and B misdemeanors and small claims. The new judge will replace Summit County Justice Court Judge Lynn Sadler who retired this year. To be considered for the position applicants must be at least 25 years old, a United States citizen, a Utah resident for three years and have a high school diploma or GED.
