A car dealership in the Snyderville Basin has closed its doors as the national economic downturn pounds the automobile industry, an employee at the shuttered business said Tuesday.
Park City Chrysler Jeep Dodge had undergone changes in ownership since the business opened at 2700 Rasmussen Road about nine years ago.
Sales at the lot had declined, the employee said, adding that the lot closed Feb. 20.
The owner of the dealership, Robert Barrus, wasn’t immediately available for comment.
Robert Crandall, who owns neighboring Crandall Ford-Mercury, said he suspected times were tough at the Chrysler dealership when car sales also declined at his more established company.
"Judging by our situation and comparing it to theirs, I thought there may be a chance they’d be going under," Crandall said in a telephone interview Wednesday. "Our business is slow and I’m sure that’s no surprise." Automobile dealerships are closing across the country, Crandall said.
"This has been going on in a pretty large fashion throughout this past year," Crandall said. "You just prepare for times like these, but I don’t think anybody could have guessed that it would get this bad."
